We will focus on steps and procedures that can be used for conducting research in the context of clinical practice. Topics will include selecting an area for study; specifying hypotheses: designing the research methodology; addressing sample size, statistical power, and effect size; selecting, running, and interpreting statistical results; considerations when collecting data from one?s own clients; and writing a manuscript of the findings. Throughout we will emphasize the challenges that are most important to address when assessment research is being conducted as part of clinical practice. The workshop will have a practical emphasis and participants will be giving a CD containing readings and resources to facilitate the research process. 5. Barry Ritzler (full day, language: English) Rorschach Coding Issues This workshop will cover advanced coding issues that frequently puzzle the moderately experienced Rorschach psychologist. Since proper administration of the method usually reduces the difficulty of coding decisions. Dr. Sciara will begin by reviewing proper administration procedures. Next, Dr. Ritzler will provide guidelines for several difficult coding decisions. Finally, both presenters will summarize and define several new variables added to the Comprehensive System. Saturday, July 26, 2008: 6. Philip Erdberg (full day, language: English) The Rorschach and Personality Disorders A substantial amount of current research and theory suggests that the Rorschach is uniquely suited for assessing personality disorders. Stephen Finn (full day, language: English) Using the Rorschach and Other Projective Techniques as Therapeutic Interventions This workshop concerns how to use the Rorschach, TAT, and other projective tests to facilitate therapeutic transformations in clients during a psychological assessment. Techniques from collaborative and Therapeutic Assessment will be discussed and then illustrated with video tape excerpts of actual client-assessor interactions. Topics covered will include the ?extended inquiry? for the Rorschach, therapeutic interventions using the TAT and the Consensus Rorschach, and how to give feedback to clients about their Rorschach results. Examples will be drawn from adult individual, couples, and child/family assessments.
